Ottawa Robotics Workshop for Indigenous Youth
Build, program, and race robots!
This free robotics workshop is for self-identified Indigenous youth grades 3-9. It will take place at the beautiful Mādahòkì Farm, a focal point of the Ottawa Indigenous community. Parents are welcome and encouraged to stay and participate with their kids.
Lunch and snacks will be provided, with a choice between authentic Indigenous cuisine or pizza.
Kids will be provided with Lego SPIKE Prime kits for the day, and will be guided in building robots that can race either as individuals or in a group with other participants. The afternoon will focus on programming the robots, completing challenges with their robots, and preparing for a robot barrel race at the end of the workshop!
This workshop is sponsored by local software company Kinaxis and is being run by IndigeSTEAM, which is an Indigenous founded and lead non-profit dedicated to reconciliation in STEM. This is the first workshop being run by IndigeSTEAM in Ottawa and the program is based on successful workshops that IndigeSTEAM has run in the past in Alberta.
If you would like to participate but need assistance travelling to the location then please let us know in the order form and we will find a way to accommodate you.
If you have any questions, please reach out to connect@indigesteam.ca
If you attended or are planning to attend the June workshop, then please reach out by email to be added to the waitlist instead of signing up on eventbrite since we would like to prioritize kids who were unable to attend in June.
