Bake and #GiveMuffins to help people experiencing homelessness and hunger

The 9th annual philanthropic food holiday

When: Sunday, 2/26/22 (all day)

Where: A kitchen near you or join for this virtual baking party.

How: Take pictures of your muffins and good deeds, and share on Social Media with #GiveMuffins. For every Muffinter, we’ll match with a monetary donation to two very worthy causes!

Why: To Raise awareness and spread kindness for people experiencing homelessness and hunger.

All the Details:

Step One: Bake Muffins. It’s time to dust those muffin tins, grab your blueberries, bananas, chocolate chips, mangoes, and other favorite ingredients, and create some meaning in the kitchen.

Together, we'll bake with Julia, Co-Founder of National Muffin Day and Founder of Tradition Kitchens. She'll share teach you how to make her favorite Double Chocolate Muffin Recipe!

Step Two: Give Muffins. As with Step One, this year we're really suggesting that our Muffinteers participate to the extent they are comfortable. If you are good with handing out muffins to hungry folks in your city, then that's great! We recommend wearing masks and gloves if you do so. If you're more comfortable donating muffins to a local shelter, that's great too!

There are tons of amazing organizations that would love your delectable baked goods. If you are having trouble finding a place to donate muffins in your city, please let us know; we will also be posting locations of organizations to donate to in cities with large numbers of participants and invite you to share where you’re giving.

We’ll also have the Muffin Meter again this year to track any financial donation you might want to consider making to a worthy cause helping people who are experiencing homelessness. This is optional, of course, but encouraged.

Step Three: Share on Social Media! Post photos of your muffins, baking soirees, and other National Muffin Day-related adventures on Instagram, Twitter, or our Facebook event page with #givemuffins. Feel free to tag us so we can share!

Philanthropic Match: For each person who is seen participating in a #givemuffins post (including your kids of course, but sorry no pets), we will donate $5 to each of Project Homeless Connect (an organization in San Francisco that provides much-needed support to people experiencing homelessness there) and Family Promise (a national network helping unhoused families with many critical resources). We hope to get donation matches from corporate and other sponsors – we will keep you posted on that! Let us know if you have ideas or want to support. In past years we’ve had thousands of participants, resulting in tens of thousands of dollars in donations – let’s see if we can keep up that muffin momentum!

Thanks everybody – we can’t wait to #GiveMuffins!

With strawberry-rhubarb muffin love,

Jacob & Julia
